Washington University School of Medicine has opened its new Neuroscience Research Building, with plans for the $616 million facility to accelerate research in areas that include Alzheimer’s disease and brain tumors.
More than 90 research teams have begun operating out of the new 11-story, 609,000-square building, located at 4370 Duncan Ave. in the Central West End. Washington University on Thursday marked the building’s opening with a ribbon-cutting event.
The new Neuroscience Research Building will advance an area of research in which Washington University’s medical school already has significant strengths, said Washington University School of Medicine Dean David Perlmutter. It receives more federal funding from the National Institutes of Health for neuroscience than any other institution, Perlmutter said.
